From my cousin: I have seriously heard many people say this that do not free range their chickens. Unfortunately, this did not seem to be the case with mine b/c they all free range every day. Tried everything under the sun to spark the laying process...NOTHING worked. Tried one last ditch effort that I do not like to do but had exhausted everything else and 5 months w/o eggs was plenty enough rest. Lights in the coops...lights! After only 3 days of lights in the coops...EGGS!! I went from getting maybe a dozen a week to getting 7-10 dozen a day...yes, you read that right...a day! So say what you want, chickens apparently do need 14-16 “daylight” hours to lay eggs.
