There’s a kind of courage that almost never gets celebrated: refusing to go along when your own camp drifts from truth.
That’s why Ben Shapiro's speech at Turning Point USA struck me so deeply, and it connects so powerfully to this week's parsha Vayigash and Chanukah.

In his speech, Shapiro wasn’t warning about “the other side.” He pushed back against his own "side's" growing comfort with conspiracy, speculation, and narratives untethered from evidence — antisemitism.

Shapiro was speaking to a large portion of the audience that didn’t want to hear it, including other major figures at the event, like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, and he knew the cost.

In Vayigash, Yehuda stands before an Egyptian ruler (unbeknownst to him, his brother Yosef) who is powerful and appears manipulative and someone intent on trapping him in a false story. Yehuda knows he cannot win by playing along with the imposed narrative.

So he does something far more radical.

He refuses the frame entirely and tells the story as it actually is, even knowing it may cost him everything. No theatrics. No slogans. Just truth, spoken clearly, without guarantees.

That’s courage.

Chanukah carries the same lesson. The Greeks threatened us by reshaping reality. They tried turning Torah into symbolism, truth into mythology. The danger wasn’t persecution alone. It was confusion.

And that's why we light the Menorah. One small flame insisting that reality is not negotiable, even when compromise would have been easier, and far more popular.

Moments like Shapiro’s speech remind us that truth doesn’t disappear all at once. It erodes when people who know better decide that silence is safer and that speaking out isn’t worth the cost. That’s unfortunately what happened when so many celebrities remained silent after October 7th. To them, speaking out for truth was just not worth the cost of losing too many of their followers. Cowardly.

Chanukah and Vayigash teach the opposite.

History doesn’t turn on who controls the narrative. It turns on who is willing to call out a lie. That kind of courage is lonely but it’s exactly what keeps the light of truth alive.

Federal authorities say 43 critically missing children — some as young as 1 year old — have been rescued during a massive, multi-state sex trafficking operation.

The two-week sting was led by the U.S. Marshals Service and covered 14 counties, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects, with more charges expected. Investigators say potential charges include human trafficking, child endangerment, and custodial interference.

The children, ages 1 to 17, were recovered across Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana and are now receiving medical care and trauma support as they begin the recovery process.
