I plant a lemon balm plant in a pot near the door we always use. Mint is supposed to help too.

We seemed to have less mosquitoes in the last few years, I'm wondering if it's because they don't like the cedar mulch I use around the house either.

Lemon balm helps keep the mosquitos away, they hate the smell of lemon. Crush lemon balm leaves and rub on your skin... it smells so good too. Herbs tend to have more aroma if they are kept somewhat dry when growing.
