and I was *all* in w/ that movie gotta tell ya. In '77, just after it came out and being the dedicated ufo nut of the group I was in at the time (a Texas leaning 'country rock' covers/original/improv thing w/ some straight up Bluegrass thrown in) I got them to do a medley I came up with.
Opened w/ a slow loud dramatic rendition of those 7 Close Encounter ship music tones that after a pause went into an slow trad acapella version of the first line of 'Swing Low' (Sweet Chariot); that, after "comin' for to carry me home", morphed into "it was a light coming down from the sky ... I don't know who or why" .. then your standard drum 'badump bump bump' intro into a full romp through the Byrds' Mr Spaceman
Was a riot ... we were the popular group of a bunch of intertwining circles at the time and place was packed ... left a few people .. and bandmates .. scratching their heads though .. ;)
