GOD'S PROTECTION

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

ISAIAH 41:10

In what ways do you need God to strengthen and uphold you today?

A PRAYER FOR OPEN EYES

God, thank You for always being with me--on the mountaintop and in the valley. Even when life feels overwhelmingly dark, it's comforting to know that You've never stopped working in every last detail. Please guide and protect the people I love most. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

A PRAYER FOR PRAYER

God, starting a new habit can be hard, but I want to dedicate time to talk with You each day. Help me to develop a discipline of prayer--where I can bring my requests and offer thanks to You for all that You're doing in the world. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

A PRAYER FOR GOD'S PRESENCE

God, You know me. You know what I'm facing, and what I've already overcome. Please remind me that You are near. Show me glimpses of Your faithfulness in this season. Restore my hope and my joy, and teach me how to continue to place my trust in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

CONCERNS

A PRAYER OF GOD'S GOODNESS

God, thank You for being my good shepherd. You selflessly pursue me, even when I doubt Your goodness. Time and time again You calm my anxious heart. Thank You for carrying my burdens. Thank You for giving Your life for me. I know You love me, care for me, and always have my best in mind. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

SHARE YOUR FAITH

Like Jesus, we can choose to put others ahead of ourselves. We can sacrifice our personal comfort for the sake of someone else.

OUR GOOD SHEPHERD

Jesus' "I Am" sayings are powerful statements that give us a look into Jesus' nature and His mission on earth.

First, each statement reveals something about Jesus' mission on earth. But second, they connect Jesus to God the Father. Jesus' "I Am" statements connect theologically to Exodus 3:14, when God revealed Himself to Moses as "I Am."

In John 10, Jesus tells the people that He is the good shepherd. The mark of a good shepherd is that he must be willing to lay down his life for his sheep. Jesus says He is willing to do that.

Jesus' statement is in contrast to the religous leaders of His day. The religious leaders would often make things very difficult for followers of God. They would add laws and regulations that would keep people from God. Ultimately they were selfish leaders, considering themselves as more important than the people they were leading.

Lord, we thank You for all You have done for us and for giving the example of John the Baptist for showing what true greatness is. Help us to have the humility of John and to use the gifts we have for the good of others. Amen.

THE GREATEST

Jesus says very clearly who John the Baptist is, what his mission was, and his importance as the "greatest born of a woman." But He adds that the least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than He. Who is the greatest? lots of people claim that title. The greatest boxer, the greatest actor, the greatest magician, the greatest athlete, the greatest - whatever is a title fought over. Even the apostles tried to juggle for position with Jesus. If we want to be the greatest, Jesus tells us we need to be the least. The greatest is the one who serves the others. John the Baptist never claimed greatness for himself. He made a point of saying that he wasn't even worthy of trying the sandals on the feet of Jesus. There are people who truly are great and history will tell us if they are or were the greatest.

Lord, there are many members but one Body. And if each local church is "a body of Christ," there is still that bigger, single, all-encompassing "the Body of Christ." There is a mystical union among all believers of all time and in all places who have been placed in union with Your Son. A PRAYER OF RELEASE

God, unclench my closed fists. Whatever it is that's holding me back--I release it to You. Please deliver me as I battle against my selfish desires and thoughts, and the things that feel impossible. Show me how to love You above all else. I trust that You are working all things for my good and Your glory. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
