What does it mean when you have always heard the ringing? It is deafening in silence, but even when it's noisy it's still there, constant, always.

Lol it's not tinnitus, zero symptoms. no thumping, wooshing, heart issues, etc. My hearing is perfect, even after surviving the 80's & 90's music at excessive decibels 😆

I assume it's a frequency, but I couldn't tell you what range. Very high pitch. I always thought it was just me until a couple years ago. No one else i've ever asked heard it.

Yes it's steady, but occasionally the pitch will change for a short duration, it usually catches my attention. When I was a kid, whenever my mom took me to Sears or JC Pennies, I think the alarm system would put out a similar ring, but it was much louder and I couldn't stay in the store long because it was hard to hear anyone talk to me. No one else seemed to notice
That's amazing - its great that you understood what it was (meaning non-threatening) and saw it as an enhancement.
Children are so intuitive, some of us retained it.
As child the only nightmare I had was the "logo of MGM" with the Lion Roaring inside the wreath before the movie began ... idk ???
