I guess it's just locally owned hardware stores that are left, which is fine by me.

I agree!!!! I miss them too!!! I would rather shop in an old hardware store than shop for clothes. There is one that just burned down about 8 miles from us, terribly sad that it happened. That was my first thought. We have 3 hardware/ home improvement type stores in my town. Also shop independent appliance stores. 😉
