Today I have been focused on doing Christmas preparations, from deciding what food to eat for the meal to writing my Holiday Poem to wrapping presents. Tonight, as I wrapped presents, I brought my CD player back with me to the bedroom. I went through the radio stations seeking some Christmas music. Not finding anything traditional or from my era, I decided to pop in a CD my brother made for me about 20 years ago. Blast From the Past. A collection of 1950's tunes he burned from my parents record album collection.

Having taken piano lessons with one of the top jazz pianists in Portland, Oregon for almost 10 years, playing ever since, I was born to play music. The piano just seems to be "my" instrument. This makes listening to music and enjoying it - well - difficult at times. My brain is always trying to play each and every note, each percussion beat.
After all of this mental exercise, I have realized something: There must not be enough room in my brain to take that all in and remember the lyrics too. There is one thing in which I utterly absolutely miserably fail when it comes to music: Understanding the lyrics. I mess this up BIG TIME.
