While, yes, the attacks are by MIC-funded politicians…I would rather see DeSantis than Hegseth (who would be fine as a DepSecDef/ASD/USD). But, there are better candidates than either of them. Running, and massively re-organizing, the DoD needs to be done by someone who has run a massive organization. DeSantis has some executive skills of a large org having been governor. But, Hegseth does not have any. Even if you staff him up with former ASD/USD/GO-FOs…he will not have the administrative law/policy experience, and can get played easily. I’d love to see a Robert Kiyosaki (former Marine and a global corporate executive) nominated.

I am a veteran and DoD civilian of ~ 20 yrs. I think the DoD should manage veteran’s healthcare. With true automation (not the cluster of non-interoperable systems/databases currently) you don’t need the VA, but an office within DoD.
