I was evicted by text yesterday. Not sure that is legal. I'm very upset, I have no money to move, nobody to even help me. I'm under the care of pain management and my cardiologist. This landlord has refused to do maintenance and repairs for years. I've had to hire people to come and fix things or do them myself. I'm 71 years old. I shouldn't have to live this way.
Roof in only closet leaks, now mold is growing on the ceiling in there. Wiring got wet in the ceiling and fried the wiring in half the house, so I am using extension cords in my kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Toilet leaks all over the floor when I flush it. Kitchen sink drains into the bathtub in the bathroom behind it and on the floor. A storm blew off the front part of the carport a few years ago. She told me that isn't included in my rent and refused to fix it. Now I only have half a carport and it leaks.

Either way that sounds like a really bad condition. I used to have a lot of rentals before the 08 crash and I used to rent out by the room, they were very nice rooms and the house was completely furnished and staged like a model home everybody that stayed at the homes loved being there
It's a very affordable way of living. There's a lot of older people that also need caregivers so you might want to look into caregiving where you're a full-time caregiver so you stay at the house and help them with little things around the house.
Hope that helps

In theory that would be fine, but I can hardly walk for the pain

I went months without hot water because she wouldn't replace the water heater. She finally did replace it, then it went out again. She made me call the warranty on the water heater, tell them this is my house and that I bought the water heater. The first part they sent didn't fix the problem, they reimbursed me the $150 I paid to have the part put in. Then they sent another part, I paid $150 again to have the burner assembly put on, and the warranty company never reimbursed me for that.
The trim is falling off the ceilings. The spackling is dropping off the ceilings. She refused to provide heat for two years and I had to heat with electic heaters, running up my electric bill and this house stayed at 57 degrees when it was cold. The gas wall heater was spewing out gas from the flame, giving me headaches so I quit using it. I would walk outside and come back in the the gas fumes were so bad, it made me sick.

So I bought another gas wall heater with December's rent. Sent the receipts and pictures to her. She got mad about that.
This is a cinder block house with concrete for floors, no flooring at all. Every time I've asked her to fix something she would threaten to raise my rent. That is mental abuse in my opinion. There are laws against elderly abuse. I've put up with this landlord since 2012. I can count on one hand the times she has done repairs to this place in all these years.
I told her I'm not able to be moving stuff, I can barely walk. Her response was you need to move to assisted living. Seriously? I'm still taking care of myself and paying my own bills. I'm not a vegetable. I'm getting help with the pain, but it takes time. Please keep me in your prayers. Only God can fix this problem. My kids won't even help.
