You can have a cancerous mole on a part of your body which has never been exposed to the sun, so yeah, melanoma is not caused by the sun.
The highly rated fancy dermatologist I used to go to required all patients to wear sunscreen home after every visit. I stopped going there immediately because when I spoke to them about the recalls of sunscreens they disagreed and bullied me. How stupid.
