Based on Revelation 13's language, where we first learn about 'the beast' and it's 'mark', it seems that (though as things develop other elements may enter into it) it will be more an issue specifically of *worship*
The 7th Day Adventists, arguably the denomination with the deepest history (in fact came into being they believe as a specific fulfillment of Rev10:9) of the study of the sister prophetic books of Daniel/Revelation and the identity of the antichrist/beast specifically, believe that the *day* of worship will become 'the mark'

God's day is clearly the 7th day Sabbath (Isaiah58:13, the 4th commandment and Gen2:2-3 solidly establish this) whereas 1st day (Sun-day) became established by the Roman Catholic Papal Church which they openly claim and boast their 'authority' to do so. This changing of a law of God is one of the specific identifiers of Daniel 7's "little horn" (vs 25) which, added to all the other aspects of this power, identifies it as the antichrist/beast.
In fact, interestingly enough, official pronouncements from Roman Catholic theologians themselves have literally proclaimed the transference of 7th day sacredness to the 1st say was done as a [q] *mark* of our authority [unq].
Another crucial element of this is how Mt4:8-10 shows just how important *worship* is to Satan .. that he would (will?) give up 'all the kingdoms of the world' to achieve it.
