On sunny, pleasant days I'll sometimes leave a cart so that a teenager can be outside when he/she is tasked with gathering them up.

I actually get a shopping cart out of the parking area before I go in. I return them where they go. I usually will not return if I don't have proper gear on for rain and its pouring down rain. But always try to return them.

I feel the same way about holding the door for the person becoming in behind me...it's like a built-in auto-reflex..I HAVE TO do it..it's just common courtesy and consideration.

I often have to consider this. A strong urge not to return it might arise for some reason, or seeing someone abandon theirs where it will cause issues, lots of judgmental thoughts and glances arise. It’s fraught with moral and amoral thoughts. In the end it’s a victory to just return it to help others.
