Even today this can happen; depends on the college, the car, and the home. We're talking non elite schools. We're talking used cars. We're talking living in a shitty neighborhood or in a house that had back taxes and owned by the bank and you just paid it off straight up. Not all colleges are expensive. Plus every child has access to a scholarship program called, "21st century Scholar". The requirement? A "C average". Plus trade schools are cheap.

He's actually getting a ride from someone he works with, he doesn't have a car. His wife can't find a job close enough because they don't have a car and works from home it has a seamstress. They only have one child because I can't afford another 😁

Growing up, my dad worked 10 to 12 hours a day, my mom babysat six kids besides her own. I would go around the neighborhood selling avocados from our tree out of my little red wagon and picking up bottles at the same time to return to the store for a deposit. We had a tiny house in Southern California and an old used station wagon.

We ate a lot of corn, potatoes and a little bit of meat. We drank a lot of Kool-Aid and didn't have that much milk. We had a lot of split pea soup and onion soup. A lot of our neighbors lived the same way things weren't that easy back then 😕

You have survived through some tough times. My family also lived through many struggles - we never had a home until I was in the 3rd grade. But the struggles we survived only made me stronger and more determined to push forward through life's roadblocks. Those roadblocks still exist, but I refuse to let them stop my progress toward a better life.

And men went to work with a suit on or else clean khakis. Women wore dresses and had their hair done and makeup. Little children knew how to sit at the table and eat with a fork and manners. At our house - TV was less than an hour a day if that much. Our entertainment was playing hide and seek outdoors or playing jacks on the porch. Still mean things happened but not nearly to the scale as now.
