I may be misreading your comment . . .
You must be referring to the religious propaganda about pagans.
To celebrate and express gratitude for nature and it's bounty is not worshipping.
To recognize the seasons, the effects of pull of the moons gravity (excellent facts for this),
to know how the Sun affects plants and all life,
is Knowledge, not worshipping.
To worship the sun, the moon, Saturn, gods, etc - that is the basis for all religions.
The "church" married their astrotheology with the pagan lifestyle in order for the church to be accepted by the masses.

I agree with your point that the church accepted many falsehoods to be more accepted by the masses. This is one of many issues I personally have with the "church". Another being a seeming attempt to o limit and contain God. I agree also that there is a difference between knowledge and worship. My belief is a true Christian worships God only.
