I do the same. My 17 yo child will say, this is not about you, mom 😳 then I explain, I’m not trying to get sympathy for myself, I’m only attempting to tell you, that I understand how you feel and why. I never mean for it to be about me but most times, if you say, I’m sorry, I know how you feel, people say, You don’t know how I feel in this situation. Does this make me a narcissist? I’ve lived 54 years, chances are, I will most times have a real life experience that matches the one she’s having. I tell her what worked or didn’t work for me, offer advice, then leave it alone.
