2 years I didn't pay our taxes and hubby seemed kind of ok with it. This year some guys at his job convinced him to file all 3 years so he doesn't get in trouble. They cashed the check for $ we owed for 2023 right away, but they owe us a few grand from 2 previous years.. no sight of it

Exactly. I have become so angry at our filthy government for taking from hard working people to give to those who don't want to work. They promote illegitimacy by making jackpots out of tax "refunds" for those with children and no fathers, who put very little into the system.
They still take money. You should get a refund.
