I am glad that you as a veteran said this. I was thinking the same thing but not being a veteran don't feel I am qualified to meet Joey eye-to-eye b/c I have not gone through what he has. As we all know, double meanings exist.
God also tells us "the key of David" is a blessing from Him, where He "opens doors no man can shut and closes doors no man can open". See Isaiah 22:22, Revelation 3:7.
In the spiritual, it's God blessing your every step. In the physical, I can see it meaning opening "the door" of our heart to His Spirit and closing the door to [their] influence.
