An acquantance who betrayed me cannot figure out why I am no longer friendly, so imagines he is the victim. I guess if they were not ignorant and arrogant then they would not be treacherous.

Once you decide that you are the sole arbiter of morality and facts then you are an easy mark for evil to deceive you into performing wicked acts. It is sad to watch the self-righteos pursue their selfishness to its destructive conclusion, but there is little you can do to stop it.
