I suppose it's inevitable that symbolism would be their downfall. Once you abandon universal love, and divide society into masters and slaves, you need a way to recognise who (and what) is in which class. You can't ask directly, so you need (esoteric) symbols to do the job for you.
so true...and now I can't even look at certain symbols without getting an upset stomach... an unfortunately, the general public has adopted some of these same symbols too. so sad
