I am noting "masks slipping" in both my personal life as well as world affairs. When under pressure people and institutions show who they really are; there's no scope for acting or pretence. Accountability is the best pressure you can ever apply, since it is always righteous and never coercive.

Indeed. And so well put. The word 'adult' should be relegated to a biological context. Presently, correcting a child is considered "mean" when in fact it is the greatest thing older people can do. As it is, we have a society filled with lying, temper tantrum throwing psychopaths aged 2 - 72. I miss the older folks I knew when I was a child. They were decent.
