People like medics, doctors, and lawyers imagine that they are saving their career and avoiding trouble by refusing to speak up and stand up for what is right. But my experience is that by being in the vanguard you are actually in the most safe and secure place. You will attract the most attention, support, and help by taking the lead. "Fast followers" will maybe avoid the worst punishments, but not get much reward for courage. The laggards will only experience pain, albeit deferred.
