Our education system appeals to ego, and rewards you for how much you (think you) know. I found myself in the tech world surrounded by many who boasted of their knowledge of trivia — "wrinkles in the fabric of the infrastructure" — but who had no curiosity as to why it wasn't flat and smooth in the first place. Their status, income, and identity was tied to fundamental problems not being resolved, and anyone who tried to obsolete them was denounced.
