Fact: Children, especially young children have less oxygen reserves than adults do. Children can become hypoxic sooner than adults. Respiratory arrest in children is the most common cause of arrest leading to death of children.
Fact: Decreased oxygen intake can lead to respiratory acidosis which can lead to respiratory arrest.
Fact: inadequate oxygen exchange results in a deleterious effect on the immune system, making chidren more vulnerable to illness.
Fact: Children touch their masks frequently, transferring bacteria from their hands to the mask.
Fact: Bacterial pneumonia can result from breathing in bacteria.
Fact: Handwashing is the BEST method of decreasing the spread of disease.
