I retired recently after 50 years of nursing. I spent 10 years in ICU/CCU, 26 years in ER, 14 years outpatient surgery/ PACU. I have given many, many thousands of medications to patients. I ALWAYS told the patient what medication I was giving and why it was ordered for the patient. ie" Mrs Smith I am giving you some morphine for your pain. This will make you drowsy and should help your pain in just a few minutes." This incident should be brought to the attention of the director of nursing.
