People in Texas, here is a tip from a New Englander: when the outdoor temperature gets to the point where your pipes can freeze, open all the cabinet doors under your sinks to keep warmer air circulating. If your pipes freeze, turn your water off. It's not 100% effective, but it may prevent a pipe from bursting inside your walls.
