Contempt of Congress is a misdemeanor offense punishable under 2 U.S.C. § 192 for willfully refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena, such as failing to testify or produce documents.

Criminal contempt penalties include:
- Imprisonment: Up to 12 months (not less than one month).
-Fines: Up to $100,000 (not less than $100).

These penalties apply if the individual is prosecuted and convicted after Congress votes to hold them in contempt and refers the case to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
