The Greater Abominations — Idolatry’s Progressive Degeneration

Ezekiel 16:15–22

Ezekiel sixteen does not merely accuse Israel of idolatry. It traces its evolution. What God exposes in verses fifteen through twenty two is not a momentary lapse, not a psychological struggle, and not an abstract metaphor for inner temptation. It is a documented descent. A progressive degeneration that follows a consistent pattern whenever a people blessed by God turns away from Him. The abominations do not appear all at once. They grow. They intensify. They metastasize. And God marks each stage with deliberate clarity.

Modern interpreters often attempt to soften this section by reducing it to symbolic language about human weakness or emotional insecurity. That approach fails the text entirely. Ezekiel sixteen is forensic, not therapeutic.
