"Matthew 2:1–12 records the arrival of Magi from the East who follow a star to worship the child Jesus. This account is not included for narrative color or devotional sentiment. Rather, Matthew presents an episode that would have been politically destabilizing, socially conspicuous, and theologically significant, announcing at the outset the arrival of a king whose claims would unsettle both earthly power and religious expectation"

Yesterday I focused on the Magi in Matthew 2. Today I want to widen the frame.
The Magi were not an anomaly. They were the firstfruits of a much larger biblical pattern.
From the beginning, Scripture anticipated a day when the nations would come to Israel’s God, not by conquest, but by recognition. Abraham was promised that all the families of the earth would be blessed through him (Gen 12:3). The Psalms envision kings of the nations bringing tribute to the Lord and to his anointed (Ps 72:10–11). Isaiah speaks of nations and kings coming to the light of Zion, bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praise of the Lord (Isa 60:1–6).
