MEMORIES OF NOAH AND THE FLOOD PRESERVED IN ANCIENT EGYPT
The Bible records a real event that changed the world. A global Flood came in judgment, and only eight people survived. Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives were saved aboard the Ark. That number eight is not poetic language. It is history.
Ancient Egypt preserved this memory visually and symbolically. Egyptian artwork and inscriptions repeatedly show eight figures standing in or emerging from the waters, often centered around a figure named Nu, who rises from the floodwaters and supports life afterward. These images are not random religious ideas. They reflect a remembered event, retold through symbolism after generations had passed.
This connection deepens when we remember who Egypt came from. Genesis 10 tells us that Egypt was founded by Mizraim, the son of Ham, who was Noah’s grandson. In the Hebrew Bible, Egypt is not called Egypt at all. It is called Mizraim, a personal name.
That means the earliest Egyptians descended directly from the family who survived the Flood. They did not learn about it secondhand. It was part of their family history.
Over time, that history was altered. Real people were elevated into gods. Noah became Nu. His family became the Ogdoad, the “Eight.” Egyptian images show them as divine figures rather than human survivors, standing in chaos waters and bringing order afterward. This is what happens when oral history drifts away from God’s written record. Truth is not erased. It is reshaped.
Even Egyptian tradition admitted these Eight were not eternal. They believed the Eight eventually died and were buried, and temples later marked their supposed tomb. Their own records connect these figures to a great flood that came before Egyptian civilization began.
The Bible gives the straight account. Eight people survived a global Flood. The nations carried that memory with them after Babel. In Egypt, the memory survived in images and myths,

distorted but recognizable.
Scripture is not borrowing from Egypt. Egypt is preserving a broken reflection of Scripture.
One Flood. One family of eight. History remembered, then mythologized. The Bible remains the original record.
