That's about a 25% tip. It is customary to give 15%. However, I made my way through college waiting tables, and I always give 20%. An easier way is 96 x .20 = $19.20 or $20. Here is a method I haven't heard of. "Calculating the tip: To easily calculate a 20% tip, double the amount of the tax and move the decimal point one place to the left. This gives you a good estimate, and some people prefer to tip on the total bill (including tax) to ensure the server gets a larger amount, especially since they have to pay taxes on their tips as well." Hopefully, those taxes on tips will go away soon.

40% is ridiculous. 20% is exemplary. 15% is good. If subpar service, smaller or even no tip is ok
