We need holistic vets, just like we need holistic doctors. ๐

Pet owners can take action by refusing repeated vaccines, ask that a titer be done, and not taking their pet in for "wellness" checks. If the pet is active, eating well, has healthy fur, bright eyes, and no signs of illness, avoid the vet checks. Also feed the pet as healthy a diet as possible. Give the pet, especially dogs plenty of outdoor exercise. ๐

Personally I use rescues that foster out the pets. The dogs are not in cages in a crowded facility. This means they are more likely to be healthier & have less anxiety issues. Also I am guessing in crowded caged facilities they may have more exposure to ill dogs & might receive more immunizations. What is nice is the foster parent can report how the dog interacts with their family & other animals, what they observe that might require attention, what the dog enjoys like car rides, cuddling & so forth. Also they reveal if the dog has any health issues or had any in the past & they provide medical care to the dogs. They do know most of the rescues past immunizations, unless the dog came as a stray. It is likely most have had initial vaccines, but as new owners we don't have to continue them. The dog pictured had little training when we adapted him, but since I love training dogs it turned out to be a great experience. (He was tied out most of his first year). ๐

There are rabies titers that can be done, of course that costs money. Most dogs don't have exposure to wild rabid animals, so IMO would not need continuous rabies immunizations. Maybe hunting dogs for instance might have significant exposure to rabid animals, and might need more rabies immunizations. Getting a titer done on these kinds of dogs might be a wise choice.๐
