Getting a green card — a permanent right to live in the U.S. and first step to citizenship — doesn't require any English knowledge at all? This has to change immediately.
Along with reviewing our 55 million visa holders, which is an absurdly high number, we also need to review our process for granting green cards and full U.S. citizenship.
If you don't speak English, you are not assimilating. We have a moral obligation to the citizens of America to remove from our country those who refuse to assimilate. No English? Afuera!

Citizens who do not speak English must not get any job that requires speaking and reading English. Also no voting, no driving. If we stop providing interpreters, that would force people to learn. When I was working as a nurse I would try to teach some English words like to say "nurse" say yes and no. Say hello, goodbye, count in English, It was like a game I played with them. 😂
there is no excuse for not ever speaking english in the country that pays you a fee to live in it (welfare). when my father moved from new sweden maine at 16 he did not know one word of english as the whole town only spoke it. there was no one to teach them. it was day to day.. my grandparents also. and no welfare. you worked or you starved.. why they had to leave maine. it had no work options to eat..so they stole potatos from the farmers. hard life.. i give them a lot of respect for what they went thru..

Yes, so many immigrants of old worked so hard to not only survive, but to learn a whole new culture and language. My ancestors immigrated from Germany. They were not offered interpreters, free food stamps, free medical care etc. They assimilated over time and were grateful to be in a free country. They did what they had to do to survive, one day at time. 😇
