They are horrid! Please outlaw nationwide!

My sister lives in Florida and pays high monthly HOA fees. Then they receive notices that they have to pay $2,000 for painting, $5,000 towards new roofing, 500 for paving and on and on. IMO these HOA's need to undergo an annual forensic audit to see where the money is going, what contractors they are using and if any money is going into personal bank accounts on the side. If residents could put that money towards paying off their mortgages that would be a far better use of their money. The only thing her HOA does is maintain a very small patch of grass around the condos and does pool maintenence and entrance maintenance, and gate security. The monthly amounts should take care of these things. Many residents don't have a few thousand laying around for painting and roofs. 🤨
