Tornadoes can snap poles and trees in half, like a toothpick. My mother told me after a tornado, they found a piece of straw impaled into a tree.

Yes but I said "hardly ever" because I have been through tornados and a pole or tree can come crashing down from the impact. But more than 50 poles - that is pretty rare. Prayers for those victims no matter the cause. It is a tragedy to all affected.
