Wasn't the civil war fought between those years (1861-1865)
Could that have something to do with relocation?
I'm not saying it's not exactly what it sounds like but I am also from the south and there was a lot of homesteads and farms, plantations and cities burnt to the ground. Those were so lean years.

Its called TRAFFICKING...SLAVERY. No amount of Journalistic BS to try and "soften the words" to not offend the reader. SLAVERY of the CHILDREN...TRAFFICKING of the CHILDREN...since the Beginning of time. EVIL has always HATED Children. AND NO AMOUNT of using the phrases of "alleged" abuse of what was done to CHILDREN or animals is going to erase the FACTS of the HORROR of what is/was done, because it's STILL GOING ON.

My husband's stepfather was one of these children. They said he and his sister's parents died in a house fire. He was young enough that he had no memory of them. He was taken in by a farming family and he was treated poorly. I think he went into the military to escape the situation when he became old enough. He had no fond memories of that farm.
