BRP Jose Rizal was built by South Korean shipbuilder HHI in Ulsan, South Korea. The frigate was launched on May 23, 2019 and commissioned into service with the Philippine Navy on July 7, 2020. The Jose Rizal-class frigates are based on an HHI design, which is a smaller version of the Incheon-class frigates (FFX-I) built for the South Korean fleet.
