it was when we were the richest.
Then we came in with the Income Tax;

& then we had the Depression..
Tariffs ended in 1913.
It was the richest our country ever was.
That was President McKinley.

THE PEOPLE ALWAYS BITCHED ABOUT TAXES AND KNEW THEY WERE UNFAIR BUT DID NOTHING BECAUSE OF FEAR OF A SEVERE MASTER.....NOW THAT THE CARROT IS OUT IT CANT BE PUT BACK IN...VIVA LA REPUBLIC

Anyone who has ever undergone an IRS tax audit well understands the fear.
All it takes is one audit and they paralyze you for the rest of your tax-paying days.
Impossible to get all those anxiety-ridden days back, which were exacerbated by ulcer attacks and sleepless nights so it will be beyond fantastic to see the demise of the IRS!

I remember when I was a kid my mother would have the taxes figured out and always owed money. She would file them but never send the check. I always worried that one day someone would show up at the door and haul her away for not paying. I'm 74 and am fully awake but that fear is still within me.
