Actually it is a dual problem. Big conglomerate grocery chains are controlling prices, and obviously reducing the availability of good organic, non processed foods. Weekly sale items are now mostly junk food that is "on sale." One big chain (Kroger) where I live used to advertise weekly organic items on sale. Now they have removed that area of their weekly specials altogether. They push mostly highly processed foods and junk foods on sale like, soda, chips, hotdogs, white bread, big name junk cereals, etc.
🙄
I stopped shopping grocery stores back in 2019. I drive out to a heritage and grass grazing feed and finished cattle ranch and buy 50 lbs of meat and then the next month out to pasture grazing chicken farm.
Then weekly to our farmers market. I still have to hunt out pesticide free and still soil and sun grown but once you find them then you know therm.
We are a family of 6 so we alone were a big loss to our local grocer. We have save $350 a month in the beef alone buying bulk direct from the farmer. We get raw milk there too.
If you are one person; meet with your neighbors to split the cost of larger orders. They will want to save too.
