My growing potatoes this year, didn't amount to much in a container pot. however, next year I hope to have some raised beds if all goes well with pallet collecting and bin making. I actually got 4 tiny little thumb sized potatoes. Although I must admit, they were from the farmers potato crop this spring. But all an adventure and learning is fun!

Need to get seed potatoes
Store bought have sprout nip sprayed on them to keep the eyes from turning to sprouts
You can get results from store bought ones if you place them in a dark cool place with a few onions.
The gas onions give off causes potatoes to sprout.
You may notice if onions and potatoes are stored together
The potatoes develop eyes and sprouts quickly
For long term storage
Keep them stored in separate areas or your potatoes won't make the winter
They'll have eyes a foot long and be shriveled up

And is there a way to make this spray for the eyes ourselves?

I installed a new packaging line in a "little potato" processing facility just over a year ago.
We could not use certain types of conveyor belting as the sprout nip erodes the belting material.
I no longer but or eat little potatoes as a result.
Grew up, growing our own.
Do so if you can
Potatoes use alot of potassium from soil so it is good to either add it the next year or rotate to new soil.
The scabs, or brown spots you find on potatoes is usually a result of lack of potassium.
Potash is your best bet
It contains alot of salt as well, so makes acidic soil basic
I seem to have that in common with potatoes, I need potassium! hehehe.💛
TY for the advice though, I plan to do much more growing in the future if I can, going to be working on making some raised beds out of pallets that were heat treated and make some almost like mini-greenhouses with each of them, however with access for bugs, more like a netting.
Praying for President Donald J Trump & all those souls dedicating themselves to saving the world from those who seek to destroy us.
If you eat bananas the banana peels are a natural source of fertilizer to amend your soil with organic Potassium.

Yes, and one can eat the peel and gain the potassium too! Much higher amount than just eating the banana.
My mom used to have a staghorm fern, and to feed it, she would throw in whole bananas to feed it, every so often.

Grew up late seventies, early eighties.
Interest rates were at 22% so we grew everything in a massive garden.
Canned, bleached, froze stored all our own veggies.
My job to look after it.
Eight kids at one point.
Raised cows, chickens.
Eggs milk and made our own butter.
I'm not the world's best expert but learned alot by trial and error.
Resented it as a kid, but blessed for it now.
I might not know it all but if you have any questions, feel free to shoot them my way
I'll be more than happy to share what I know.

I grew up the same way Karl. There were 11 of us kids and we lived in the country. We had cows, goats, pigs, and chickens. I was the 3rd oldest so starting at 11 it was my job to milk the cows, churn butter and feed the pigs. When time came we would take the pigs to the quonset, kill, bleed and bucther them. We also butchered a few cows. I also hated it at times but I'm so thankful that I was raised that way.
To this day I still purchase raw milk and make my own butter. Make my own bread and grow veggies. It's getting VERY hard to find non GMO seeds. I was harvesting the seeds from my produce for the next year but last year we had a family emergency and I was gone for a month. The person caring for my animals and home neglected to water my plants and everything died. I bought some zucchini and they didn't even have seeds in them! They were solid all the way threw! 😞
