Very curious monologue by the jaded elder 'lady' of the bunch (I didn't catch who she was historically) about the 'Hollywood curse'. I think I'll do a little background peek at her if I can identify her.
Joanna Lumley, was in the Avengers (British TV show) as Purdy, in Sapphire and Steel, as Sapphire, and Absolutely Fabulous (cult tv series) as Patsy.
I imagine she has been there done that - twice...

Her character Elinor Glyn was an english author who wrote and popularized 'risqué' novels specially targeted to a female audience which was unusual for her day apparently. Later moved to Hollywood to further her playwriting career working in both silent and speaking films. Helped establish the career of silent film star Clara Bow connecting her to the term the 'it' girl which Glyn coined.
