God formed Adam from the dust, breathed *HIS* breath into his nostrils and [*then*] Adam became a living soul.
Throughout scripture the word 'soul' primarily refers to the entire person .. body and all. In fact it's used interchangeably with 'person' over and over.
God's BREATH (ie the *life force*, which belongs exclusively to him) returns to him at death.
And might weigh 3/4 of an ounce.
But make no mistake .. the modern western notion of a *conscious* immortal 'soul' that exists separate from the body is pagan in origin.
The Bible teaches no such thing.
