Religion has always been the problem. God does not desire religion, God desires relationship. Religion is bondage, relationship is freedom. Being under the law is slavery and bondage, being under grace and in relationship with our Creator, is freedom and peace. No religion can save a soul, only an abiding relationship with God, the Creator of life can save your soul. No amount of religious works or ceremonies can save you, only belief in the finished work of Jesus Christ can save your soul. The organized church fails to teach the truth of the New Covenant of grace, that came upon the world by all Jesus accomplished, when God manifested as man, offered forgiveness to the world, became the perfect sacrifice, and ushered in the New Covenant of Grace. Too many people are still in bondage to religion. This is why the pathway to freedom is narrow and the pathway to destruction is wide.
