I get the sentiment. However, the statement about defending democracy is factually wrong.
Our Founding Fathers had many a heated argument concerning whether or not our new country should be a democracy or any other known form of government. All known forms of government were decidedly so flawed, especially democracy, that they were not to be adopted.
These United States were never a democracy. For over 200 years revisionist propaganda by the anti federalist, pro democracy usurpers have all but convinced everyone that these United States are a democracy. This fundamental lie changed everything. It also sowed the seeds for the destruction of every tenet we hold dear. And that is why we are going through this division we see today, in our time.
We are a Federalist Constitutional Republic with a government of limited powers.
