Unfortunately, PM has a paywall. The title implies that they are suggesting the cause is from within the Earth. This is likely only an indirect cause. The 'blobs' would effect where the poles are located but is not the phenomena forcing the change.
Ben Davidson's theories on the galactic current sheet inducing the magnetism of Earth (and the sun, stars, and all the planets) makes perfect sense. As our solar system passes through the reversal of polarity in the galaxies magnetic wave, it reverses the polarity of every planet.
