Does this tie back to when we were born and assigned ss #, and we were put in the system and assigned to a bank?

You are young. SS number at birth started about 30-35 years ago. SS numbers were for paying taxes. We didn't get them until we started working prior to that. From birth tracking was always a concern with them and they, of course, promised that was not going to be an issue.
