ExxonMobil did this after a deep underground transfer pipe ruptured crude oil into our lake and residential homes in Mayflower, AR - like a FLOOD. They paid off mortgages but that didn't make them the owner of the mineral rights because no one owns mineral rights in this generation in Arkansas. The mineral rights ownership goes back to Civil War legacy families. That could be the case too in E. Palestine, OH where land owners from generations back own the mineral rights that can't be sold at home purchase.

You can here in Arkansas but you have to find a family descendant willing to sell and they don't. Many of them here became overnight millionaires when the natural gas find happened 10 years ago. They won't sell.
