I honestly believe that part of the idea behind the "Real ID" system was to implement a way to verify if people are actual US citizens. When it was set up, you had to have proof ie DD214, Birth Cert, or Naturalization papers.
So when this does come around, we can be verified easier.
Just my opinion.
I was hoping that was the reason too.
