We have a team in place including a private ambulance to transport her. They are DELAYING hospice or releasing her from the hospital. We don’t have that kind of time! She is declining due to lack of medical treatment and nutrients. We are left with other NO option than to alert the public and request your assistance as we are trying to SAVE VERONICAS LIFE. #1: Rinse your tips, then measure your tips by pushing them down in a large measuring container. Then add them to a pot, and the same amount of water and sugar. So 2 cups tips, 2 cups water, 2 cups sugar. Stir well and boil for 15 minutes, turn off heat, cover the pot, let sit 24 hours, strain well, bring to a boil and reduce (thicken) by 1/3. Pour into canning jars, waterbath for 10 minutes.
#2: Rinse tips, place a layer in a jar, cover with sugar, put another layer in the jar, cover with sugar, etc until you end with a layer of sugar on top. Let sit for 2 weeks, shake occasionally as the liquid that is pulled from the tips sinks to the bottom. In 2 weeks, drain and put into a jar, put jar in the fridge - good for months and full of Vit C and other vitamins.
To use:
Add 1-2 spoonfuls to a glass of water, add ice if you want, and drink. It's called "poor man's lemonade". It has a citrusy flavor.
Add to hot tea, take by the spoonful, pour over ice cream or pancakes,

Spruce syrup - sooooo good! In the western states, we don't have sugar maples, but we do have spruce ;)
Usually in May, sometimes into June (like this year) the spruce tips are growing. Spruce and redwood grow at the tips of their leafy/needle branches. If you pick those little growing tips in the spring, the tree will never grow there again. So sustainable and ethical harvesting needs to be done so you don't damage a tree for life...
But we have several trees that will be cut down shortly (must be done, wish it were otherwise). So we are harvesting all the tips we can before they are cut down. I usually harvest enough each year to make our spruce syrup, but this year it looks like we will have gallons of it.
Spruce syrup is very good for you, filled with minerals and heavy on Vit C. If you cook it, the vitamin content is destroyed but the minerals are still left - and you can can it for long term storage use.
Will explain how to make it in 2/2.
