You're speaking the heart of our Founders, that's why they put tight shackles on the Federal Government. Know what eroded those shackles? Woeful ignorance and misplaced good intentions. We need a dose of the Spirit that filled our Founders... and we need it fast. The USA they framed was what most today would call anarchy, government was so light on the people. It was up to the people to police themselves in their daily lives, in their interactions with others. They were expected to have individual self-control and a good moral foundation that lead their lives. Every new law enacted ate away at those requirements, shoving once adults back into the cradle. Now we're a nation of perpetual self-absorbed toddlers, whining and complaining and screaming "MINE!" and "That's not FARE!" and "He hurt me FEELINGS!" Dear Lord in Heaven, where to start to fix that?

You're talking like Jefferson, but even he grudgingly conceded a modicum of government was needed, though kept in tight rein, mainly for Federal Government dealings with other countries, not as an imposition on the people. Texas' government was originally fashioned on the Jeffersonian ideal.

I'm with you in spirit, always have felt the same as you. But with freedom comes self-governance, so many claim the right to freedom without accepting the requirement of self-governance.
We still have to operate within the existing web of laws we take for granted. Some are for the good of everyone, like stop signs, red lights, & speed limits. What we DON'T need is the FedGov sticking its nose into every aspect of our public & personal lives. That was never intended & shouldn't be allowed, since the FedGov was expressly forbidden that ability, it's blatantly unconstitutional.
